Your Guide to Finding the Clearest Water in Islamorada

Looking for that perfect patch of clear, turquoise water? In Islamorada, it’s not hard to find—we’re surrounded by it. At Kon Tiki Resort, we're located right on the bay, so calm, clear water is always just steps from your front door. But if you're bringing your boat and want to explore even more, here are a couple of our favorite local spots where the water clarity will stop you in your tracks.

Alligator Lighthouse (Oceanside)

Just offshore, Alligator Lighthouse is one of the top spots for clear water and snorkeling. You’ll find bright blue water, live coral reefs, and plenty of fish. It's shallow enough to enjoy even if you're new to snorkeling, and it's only a quick boat ride from our dock. On a calm day, the visibility is so good you can see the bottom without even getting wet.

Want to plan a whole day around the water? Bring lunch, tie up, and enjoy swimming, floating, and spotting sea turtles or colorful reef fish. We covered more spots like this in our post on Best Beachfront Activities in Islamorada.

Lignumvitae and Indian Key (Bayside)

If you’re looking for something more relaxed and less crowded, head to the bay. The waters around Lignumvitae Key and Indian Key are shallow, still, and beautifully clear—think greens, purples, and blues depending on the light. These spots are perfect for paddleboarding or floating the afternoon away. And yes, they’re also a short ride from our boat ramp.

If you’re more of a beachgoer than a boater, take a look at our Best Beaches Near Islamorada. We shared our favorite spots for setting up a towel and catching a sunset with your feet in the sand.

Don’t Have a Boat? We’ve Got You.

Our resort offers free dockage, a private boat ramp, and trailer parking—one of the only places in Islamorada that does. If you're not bringing a boat, no problem. These spots are still accessible through local tours or rentals. Or stick to land and check out Things to Do in the Florida Keys in July for more ways to enjoy summer on the island.

One More Reason to Stay at Kon Tiki

Alligator Lighthouse and the bay islands are just minutes from our dock. Whether you're floating in waist-deep water or snorkeling over coral heads, it’s all right here. When you're done, head back to your waterfront cottage and watch the sunset from the picnic tables at our marina.
