Still Charming After All These Years: The Spirit of Kon Tiki Lives On

If you’ve been coming to the Keys for a while, you’ve probably heard of Kon Tiki. Maybe you’ve even stayed here. We’re one of the original Islamorada resorts — tucked on the bay, surrounded by coconut palms, and just a few steps from your boat. Generations of families have made memories here, and we’ve been lucky to be part of it all.

And yes, like any long-loved spot, we’ve grown and changed a bit.

But here’s what hasn’t changed: the spirit of Kon Tiki.

Old Florida Charm, Brought Up to Date

We recently completed a series of thoughtful updates to our cottages — from fresh finishes to more modern comforts — but we were careful not to lose what made this place special to begin with. Each unit still has its own personality (no copy-paste hotel rooms here), and we’ve kept the breezy porches, the cozy layouts, and the sense that you’re staying somewhere with a story.

Some folks assume that a resort with history must be “run down.” Not the case. We take pride in keeping things well cared-for, clean, and truly guest-ready. Our maintenance and housekeeping team are the heart of the operation, and it shows in every detail. Daily service, friendly faces, and the kind of hospitality that’s harder to find in today’s big-brand hotel world.

Staying True to Our Roots

Kon Tiki is still owned and operated by people who live and work in the Keys — not a national chain. And that makes a difference.

We aren’t trying to be flashy. We’re not trying to be fancy. We’re just focused on helping you unwind in a laid-back, local space that feels like a second home. The coconut palms are still swaying. The sunsets still light up the bay. And the folks on the dock? They’re still swapping fishing stories over a cold drink.

Islamorada Is Changing — But We’re Holding On

There’s no denying it: Islamorada has changed a lot in recent years. More big resorts. More traffic. More new construction. But there’s still room (and demand) for places like Kon Tiki — the places that hold onto the spirit of the Keys, the way it used to be.

Whether it’s your first time visiting or your fifteenth, we hope you’ll feel the difference as soon as you arrive. You’ll notice it in the quiet mornings by the water, the easygoing vibe, and the genuine service that comes from people who care.

Come stay awhile — we’ve saved you a spot on the dock.
